SPEAKER_00Thanks so much for tuning in and uh showing up. It's the second season of Funky Funky But Chic. I want to say merry everything and happy always to everyone during the holiday season. And now that we're in the 2-6, the new year, uh everybody is talking about New Year's resolutions. Hmm. But I'd like to offer a different perspective, a different spin. Instead of a resolution, let's talk about solutions for the new year. But let me hold my horses. Let me let me get to the history of where the new year's resolutions traditions stem from. Um, comes back about 4,000 years uh back to the ancient Babylonians, who were the first to celebrate the new year and make resolutions. They held their New Year resolution celebrations in mid-March and coinciding with the planting of crops and made pledges to their gods to return borrowed items and pay debts. This tradition was later adopted by the ancient Romans who shifted the timing to January 1st with the Julian calendar. The practice of setting New Year's resolutions has endured through the centuries, evolving into the modern tradition that we recognize today.

SPEAKER_00So basically, a resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something. A solution? It means solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation. So we we set the resolutions, but also we often can decide or not decide to put a solution in place for the problems that become the every year resolution. You know what I mean? Um there's a way to approach that, and I think it would be helpful to offer uh this angle today that finding a solution may be a better opportunity, situation, circumstance resolved for you to get a better result in return for your year, to solve some things opposed to deciding not to or to do something. You know, I'm not gonna eat any more chocolate cake or I am going to go to the gym. All those things are solution-oriented, but if you just change your perspective on solution opposed to resolution, maybe we can make some more progress. Just ride it out with me. You know, at the end of the day, um, it's it's to provoke you and create discussions and chatter for your personal space along with your tribe and somewhere just to make you a better human. But overall, we shouldn't need a New Year's resolution to do better. You don't need a special occasion to be a better human being. Start today. You could have started the 1st of January or on a random Tuesday. Just keep showing up for yourself, be a little more honest, a little more intentional, and put real effort into becoming who you want to be in building what you actually want in life. And those things should carry out through the year, whether it's into a new year or something from the past. There's nothing special about becoming better. You can do that at any moment. The moment you decide there needs to be a switch, a change, an elevation, take it and do it now. So that's what we want to talk about. We want to encourage you and provoke you and frustrate you and push you and just give you some thought process to say I can be a better person whenever I decide to. Using the marker of the new year resolution, that gets us a place that we can all collectively move towards that, moving away from the old year into something new. And so some people need a touch point, a transitional point, a line of demarcation to move forward. Respect it and understand it. I ain't trying to hurt your feelings, but I want to make sure you're making some progress. You're not just setting resolutions because it is the popular traditional thing to do, but yet we find yourself back into the same place a year from now. And we all know that you're not who you were, you're not who you want to be, but you are more of who you have always been, and that's what's most important as we move forward through the year and throughout life. So I want to encourage you, motivate you, set you up for uh a real spicy kind of living this year. Really, you know what it is? I just want you to be in a position where you can fuck shit up.
SPEAKER_02The art of staying funky and staying shit.
SPEAKER_00Lead with intention, live from your heart, create with abandon, go where you are loved, enforce peace. It's non-negotiable. Love the people you love better, and no public pretending, only private and paid success. Yeah, you can take your life and you can create the life you want to make and live the dreams you want to live, you can live your happiness, you can be where you want to be, you can be who you want to be, you can love when you want to love, travel where you want to travel, own what you want to travel, let go of what you don't need, end cycles, all those kinds of things are very conscious and intentional efforts, and they're solutions to problems. You know, often I think the biggest thing we hear as the year ends are relationship-oriented complaints or resolutions. I'm not gonna do this anymore, this kind of person, I love myself more, I need more, this won't happen anymore. But I think the biggest thing you can do when it comes to relationships specifically, because you can't change anybody, and you really can't fix anybody. So the best thing you can do is influence people, inspire people, and support people where they are. At the end of the day, you can't change them and you can't fix them. So if an inspiring, influencing, and supporting them does not yield the kind of exchange in the relationship you need, then you need to set boundaries and step away. If it doesn't feed your soul, doesn't uplift you, now the solution is we either set boundaries or we walk away. We don't spend time trying to build people, drag people, make them something we want them to be, or what we see they can be, or get consumed and seduced by their potential. That's a solution. So this time, next year, you have a better handle on the boundary. What you will do, what you won't do, what you want to do, what you can't do. Word is a complete deal breaker for you as it relates to relationships, and in that process, you are loving yourself more, and the more you love yourself, you can set the boundaries, set your standards, and then you can move forward when loving and engaging people. Basically, your circle should be challenging you out of your comfort zone, but yet still protecting your vision. You as a group may have different paths, but the same standards, and you're only rocking with solid people. Those are solutions about how you manage uh adult relationships, things you do, things you don't do, things that work for you, but these are things that you initiate. You don't have to wait to the first of this month or any month. The moment there needs to be a change, an adjustment, you need to recalibrate, you can do it right now. We just want you to have a better life, a more wholesome life, a focused life, but more importantly, a life that you completely live in control of. You're fully aware of who you are, and always showing up as your full strength version. The full strength version of yourself, always at all times, not shrinking, not being broken, not being less than to feed somebody's ego. Those things will help you deal with life, give you a solution on how to deal with people, how to manage yourself, how to navigate the challenges that come in life, the pitfalls, the unexpected hits and bruises. They're coming, they're part of life. But at the end of the day, you taking the solution and applying it to the problem will eradicate that problem or reduce its impact so we're not deciding to do or not do at the top of the next year. This has been resolved, this is in place, we're at peace, we're moving forward. All things are good.
SPEAKER_02Ah, here we go, mate. It's the art to stay in funky and the art to stay in chic. With Shaw.
SPEAKER_00Acknowledge that you are not where you started, you are not who you were, you have become more of who you are. Good job deciding to correct, repair, or walk away and keep going, making yourself a priority with each refresh. Build on that energy and always show up as yourself, a full strength version of yourself. Lean into your intuition and trust the universe to guide, equip, and reveal what should be happening in your life. Go, be magically human. And throughout your life, remember you gotta feel what you're experiencing, you gotta face it and you gotta own it. So when challenges come, that's your posture, that's your solution to the problem. Embrace the emotion, acknowledge that it is or it has happened. You gotta own it, not with an audience and maybe with a therapist, but more importantly, with yourself. Break the habits, the routines, the behaviors that brought you to the moment of internal conflict, whatever is happening that has brought you to this place, you are responsible for now taking inventory in your life, making things better, being solution-oriented so that you don't face this again. Or if you face this again, you face it in a different perspective. It's all up to you in your painful moments. I always say heal, but don't rush. But you gotta heal. Don't weaponize the healing, don't use the healing as an excuse not to be and become who you are. Heal forward, don't fall back into the situation and continue to rehearse the pain, the scenarios, calling their names, spreading the story. Move forward with your healing and mature. And more importantly, in those moments, walk away from what you've outgrown. When it doesn't fit anymore, what do you do? I know you I know you still try to squeeze in it or wear it, but really, when it doesn't fit anymore for you, take it off, either throw it away or give it to goodwill. Either way, it no longer belongs to you, and you don't have to be dramatic with it. Do it with silence and just distance yourself. Healing enhances and elevates your emotional maturity. So a lot of what you're looking outward to do or not to do, to become, all starts within you. So the solution is you. When the problems externally come, you are the solution to your life. The better you are, the more evolved, and the more elevated you are, the better you are equipped to address challenges, to apply a solution, and have a more harmonious life. We hit a fuck shit up in the 06. That's just how you want to live, just that brazen and that harsh, right into the face of it. Not offensive, but just that's how it is. That's how I feel, that's how it needs to be, that aggressive with that grunt it to move forward because life is not slowing up. Seasons will change with or without you. Whether you get on the bandwagon and roll out or not, it's still happening. Life is moving very, very swiftly, and you don't want to be left behind because you are still in indecision, deliberation, or hesitation. You know, when the idea comes to you, take it. Um, I heard Mel Robin say she's got a five-second rule. When it comes to your mind, act on it because in three seconds you begin to talk yourself out of it. In five seconds, you have dismissed the idea. Act on it. Do it now. That's your life. That is a solution to your hesitation, that is a solution to your deliberation. And in this indecision, you've got to live a better life so you can have better outcomes in your life and be entirely yourself always. That is just absolutely key. Create what you see, do what you feel, go where you want, be who you are, and embrace what resonates with you. Do it now. Choose a bold life and live your happiness. Live fully is what we want you to do. We want you to be that person that you realize you can be, the person you dream of, the ideas you feel, the intuition that you just discern. Fulfill that in your life. It's all up to you. Make more room for life. No time for the indecision, deliberation, or hesitation. Get in the game. Play the game. It's all a game. Y'all know this is a game, right? Be the best player and know when to sit out as well. I think the best thing about any time in your life and getting the most out of life and understanding your value and your purposes in life is to be entirely yourself always. Um, all these things are foundational and essential to you being who you are, loving who you are, being self-aware about who you are, and making an impact into the world. The full strength version of you is necessary. Please step into that and don't step away from it. Unapologetically be exactly who you are. Step away from groups and people that devalue, undermine, or judge your humanity. Curse anyone daring to shrink your worth. Absolutely. No human has the power or the authority to cancel your existence. Keep your light lit. Walk away from the masked players posing as family, friends, lovers, leaders, or clergy who embrace you only to turn you into a smaller, safer version of you. They're chasing ego echoes, not your truth. You are enough just as you are right now. You matter, you belong. And just because people don't get it, don't mean you ain't got it. That's a them problem. Always show up as yourself with swagger, soul, and sparkle. You know what I say. You gotta stay funky and you gotta stay chic. These things help you navigate in life, in relationships, in your faith, in your spiritual walk, in your profession. Um, embracing you fully, I really believe that embracing you and understanding you helps you navigate in all areas of life. Um, that is a big mantra for me, and something that even in the first season uh when we first met, we talked about that. And I believe being fully aware of yourself and conscious of yourself and um in tune with yourself helps you to manage navigate uh throughout life in all platforms. And it starts there. Everything you're looking for without is within. It all starts inside, it starts with you as you, and when you have a great handle on that, I'm not saying life is perfect, I'm not saying it's problem-free, but what I am saying, you're in tune with yourself and you're aware of the things that fit or don't fit. You understand where you gotta scale up, you gotta grow, you gotta mature, you need to elevate. Those things are things you can determine within yourself and not be swayed by outside forces and egos of other people and the agendas of other persons. You can take yourself and into this new year, be everything you've always been. You are just becoming that with every experience, the experiences you didn't know you needed. Those things are developing you and bringing everything inside, outside of you into the world, so that you now live clear with focus, intentionality, and love. Those things are key for you manifesting who you are in the world. Big things are ahead of you this year. Are you ready? Old things have passed, have you let them go? It's essential that you tap into you and be fully you at all times in order to manifest everything, to accomplish all things, to see dreams come true, to put your hand on a lover's shoulder, to find peace in someone's life, to let go of the pain and abuse that held you down so long, to unleash the power that's within you. It is essential that you be all that you are in this life. Time is swift, but it's up to you to live it while you're here. Being funky and being chic are all those things that help you become everything you are at all times in your home, on the job, on the corner, at the airport, wherever you choose to be and however you choose to live, these things are essential to you becoming fully the version of yourself that you were created to be that will make an impact in everybody's life who comes across your path. So, what do you think? What are some things that you need to uh get solutions for? And you can step away from just the resolution itself, but some things that you may have carried for years in the back of your mind. Um, it's time to be funky and chic. And honestly, listen, being funky is keeping your flavor bold and unconventional and unapologetically expressive, being exactly who you are. It's about moving through the world with a playful, creative, and slightly rebellious edge. Being chic is about refined taste, intentional choices, and a sense of ease under pressure, being aware, but being sexy in the process. Being rebellious, but being refined and sophisticated in your methods. It's about fucking shit up. Not just the resolution, but the solution. Um, coming into the new year, uh, definitely want to honor a dear friend of mine. The show today is is powered by a friend of mine for more than 30 years. My friend Dana Lee transitioned this year, January the 3rd. Um, and it hit me hard. She's a great friend of mine for a very, very long time, I believe. I met Dana when I was 11 years old in Washington, D.C. at the Ala Patmos Baptist Church, which was my home church. My friend is gone. And when I got the call, it reminded me even more so about how much we need to fuck things up. And basically, uh, as harsh as that may sound to some ears and unwelcoming, it's the message that I want you to get that we need to live like there is no tomorrow because it's not promised. We need to be active in our today and live fully today and give all the things away in us so that we can leave this earth, this realm empty. What are you saving it for? You were created to upgrade the world. And getting the news about Dana leaving reminded me to live, to do it now. I have a reminder on my Alexa app that goes off about five times a day, and it says, do it now. It's just a reminder. Some of those times when I'm sitting, I'm being lazy, or I don't want to take the time, or I'm tired. Uh it reminds me to do it now because tomorrow's not promised. Later on, today is not promised. The quality of life may not sustain, and everyone has a time and a moment, and I don't want to race against the clock because I'm fearful that I'm leaving. I want to live light and full. So when I leave, I've completed what I needed to do while I was here in this realm. Strangely enough, too, I had uh some Chinese food and I opened my fortune cookie and it said, the future is not predetermined, but your actions determine your destiny. My takeaway from that is you are responsible for creating and maintaining your life. Yes, the spirit enables us, and the universe makes a way and provision and sustains us, but we are responsible for what we are here to do as stewards over the mission of our life. And so let's move forward. Let's go. Let's go with the gusto. That dream you've been thinking about, something you've been planning that you keep putting off time, whether it's money, um, ideas, uh, the time to do it, and you can't seem to reconcile any of those things that get you started. Just start. You start, you can get better later. Trust me, if it's in you and you align with the universe and yourself to say, this is who I am, this is what I'm going to do, provision will manifest, it will show up again. It's all in you. You've got to press forward and not just talk about the resolution because it's a catchy song, it's something we do traditionally. You don't want to lullaby yourself to sleep and live a stagnant life with the same declarations every year that you never face, home, or fix. Y'all, thanks for hanging out with me. I'm up and out, but remember, it's never too late to be what you might have been.
