Good people, welcome back to the show. My uncles, my aunties, my cousins, my nephews, and them. Thank y'all for being here today. Today we are talking about something that could save friendships, marriages, group chats, and at least three family holidays a year. It's the ancient wisdom of Rumi that says, before you speak, let your words pass through three gates. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Basically, it's a polite way of saying, think before you open your mouth.

Let's start with the first gate. Is it true? This is the gate most rumors fail at. Also, 90% of social media. We've all been there. Someone says, I think I read somewhere that coffee cures everything. Did you read it? Did you dream it? Or did your cousin's friend's dog tell you? If you don't know, it's okay to say, I don't know, or I'm not sure. It's better than confidently speaking nonsense. Gotta be more careful with the things we say or do. Consider this facts versus I heard it somewhere. If your source is my cousin's friend's barber, it's not fact. It's folklore. Emotional truth versus actual truth. Feelings are real, but they're not always reality. Don't let your mood become your news. The danger of filling in blanks. When you don't know the whole story, your brain starts writing fan fiction and it's rarely accurate. The power of saying I don't know. These are three magic words that make you wiser instantly and way less wrong. Now the second gate is it necessary? This is the gate where most of our fun facts no one acts for get stopped. Just because something is true doesn't mean it needs to be said. For example, yes, your co-worker's haircut is bold, but must you announce it like it's breaking news? Sometimes the most necessary thing you can say is nothing. Silence is free, silence is peace. Silence keeps you employed. You gotta know what to say, when to say, whether you should say it at all. Consider this when silence is hero, sometimes the quietest person in the room is the one saving everyone from chaos. Oversharing and the urge to fill space. If you're talking just to avoid silence, congratulations. You're now hosting a one-person oversharing festival. Speaking to help versus speaking to hear. Check your motives. Are you helping or just auditioning for main character energy? Timing matters. The right words at the wrong time are still the wrong words. Timing is the real MVP.

Lead with intention, live from your heart. Creed with abandon. Go where you are loved, enforce peace. It's non-negotiable. Love the people you love better, and no public pretending, only private and paid success. Finally, the third gate. Is it kind? This is where we separate helpful feedback from verbal karate. You can tell someone the truth without hitting them with it like a frying pan. Kindness doesn't mean lying, it means remembering the person is a human, not a pinata. And don't forget kindness towards yourself. Your inner voice should speak and sound like a supportive friend, not a grumpy troll. Uh consider this kindness versus brutal honesty. Honesty is great, but it feels like a punch when you're doing it wrong. Tone, it's the secret ingredient. It's not what you said, it's the soundtrack you said it with. Delivering truth without being a cactus. Share the truth, not the prickles. No one likes conversational cactus energy. Kindness towards yourself. Talk to yourself like you're someone you actually like. It changes everything. Experiences you didn't know you needed. So the takeaway today is before you speak, run your words through the three gates. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? If your words don't make it through all three, maybe let them stay in the draft folder of your brain. Thanks for being here. You know it's never too late to be what you might have been. Go forth and communicate like the wise, thoughtful, slightly funnier human you are. So remember before you speak, the three gates. This is the funky and chic and crispy edition. Before you let words fly out of your mouth like confetti, run them through the three gates, the ultimate vibe check for communication. Gate one is truth. This is your no-nonsense, no rumor, no cousin of a friend of a barber filter. If what you're about to say isn't rooted in reality, it doesn't get past the velvet rope. Truth is the foundation, the chic minimalist base layer of good communication. If you don't know, say you don't know. It's classy. Gate 2. Now that your words are true, ask, do they need to be said? This is where unnecessary commentary, random oversharing, and I just thought you should know get politely escorted out. Necessary words add value, clarity, or support. Everything else is just noise, and we're keeping the soundscape clean. Gate 3, kindness. Finally, the glam glitter, kindness. You can be honest without being sharp. You can be real without being rude. Kindness is the sparkle, the softness, the elevated tone that turns truth into connection instead of conflict. And yes, this includes how you talk to yourself. No more intercritic monologues that sound like a villain origin story. Put all three together and get communication that's intentional, elegant, and emotionally intelligent. Truth keeps it solid, necessity keeps it meaningful, kindness keeps it human. Use the three gates, and your words won't just sound better, they'll land better. Chic communication only.
